Staff formation year

Mödling, AUSTRIA
August 30, 2004 - August 22, 2005

The Kerygma Teams Staff Training Year is a 12- month course designed to equip Christian workers to staff and /or lead a Kerygma Team, or to run KT- type programs in their own diocese, youth group, or in the context of another Christian mission.

Through lectures, personal coaching, and through hands-on experience, participants in the SFY will learn how to run the following programs:

  • Following Jesus – an intensive discipleship training program for young adults which consists of 8 week ends over a 10-month period of time
  • JumpStart – a week end for teens and twenty-something’s which helps them to discover their God-given gifts, and life vocation.
  • GXP (= Gospel eXPerience) – a very intense 2-day evangelistic tool for Catholic teen-agers.
  • Alpha – A 10-week evangelistic program geared towards sharing the Gospel with the unchurched in a low-key setting.
  • Youth Outreach - A 3-week training and outreach program for kids 16 years and older. (Our 2005 program will take place before and during the World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany)
  • In addition, participants in the KT Staff Training Year will have the opportunity to hone their own leadership and public speaking skills as well as receive training in “practical” areas of missionary life, like fund raising, project planning, mentoring, writing newsletters, and the German language. Finally, the SFY participants will be trained in some of the fundamentals of forming Christian community.

FORMAT:
With the exception of the months September, July, and August, the weekly schedule will follow a basic format. Most days will begin with private prayers and mass, followed by a 1-hour team meeting. Twice a week there will be lectures from KT staff members, once a week small group interaction, and then practical application of what was learned on the week-ends and/or outreach. KT staff will be available for personal coaching during the week, and there will be ample time set aside for the participants to work on developing “ministry skills” (i.e. writing lectures, doing research, writing newsletters, etc.) In addition, there will be 2 evenings a week of German language school during the months of October and November. Mondays are free, as well as a minimum of 1 evening and two afternoons a week. We have included a daily schedule on the back of this sheet.

During the month of September the participants will be receiving from staff and guest speakers 5 days a month. Subjects covered during this will include: Life as a team, discovering your gifts and talents, principles of ecumenism and the vision, values, history and spritituality of Kerygma Teams.

The official course languages are English and German.

COSTS:
50 Euros per month. In addition, the participants need to cover their own costs for room, board, language school, health insurance, travel, and for personal items. Depending on the living situation, this would be between 450 € and 55€ / month.

KERYGMA TEAMS:
The Staff Training Year is being sponsored by Kerygma Teams. This is a branch of the lay-missionary organization, Youth With A Mission. Kerygma Teams supports Catholic parishes, renewal movements, and groups active in evangelization, mercy ministries, and training in the Catholic Church. In addition, Kerygma Teams offers opportunities for Christians to become involved in short - and long-term cross-cultural missions projects. For more information, please check out the KT website at www.Kerygmateams.org

APPLYING:
This course is limited both in size as well as in scope: it is geared exclusively towards Catholics who are already involved in active ministry of some kind. Because of this we request a personal interview with potential STY participants prior to acceptance to the course. If you are interested, or if you have any questions, please send an email to: Austria@Kteams.org. Thank you.
